Celebrating Dementia Action Week 2025

At The Check House Care Home, providing exceptional care for those living with dementia is central to everything we do. Dementia Action Week is always a highlight in our calendar, and this year’s event was once again a fantastic opportunity to bring residents, staff and the wider community together in support of a cause close to all our hearts.

Dementia Action Week happens from the 19th to 26th May, is organised by the Alzheimer’s Society and aims to raise awareness and understanding around dementia, with a particular focus this year on encouraging early diagnosis. For us at The Check House, it was also a chance to celebrate the lives and individuality of the many residents we support each day, while reinforcing our commitment to compassionate, person-centred dementia care.

Throughout the week, our home was filled with colour, music and laughter. Our team wore bright Dementia Action Week T-shirts as a show of solidarity, sparking conversations with visitors and creating a visible sense of unity and pride across the home. We also had an array of homemade games specially created by our team to support cognitive stimulation and gentle physical activity. These were a hit with our residents and many of them actively got involved in all of the games!

One of the most memorable highlights was a visit from professional singer Cameron Lemmer. His performance included classic anthems which had our residents smiling, clapping and dancing. Cameron has performed at The Check House before and his return was eagerly anticipated by residents and staff alike. His ability to connect through music brought back fond memories for many and provided a truly uplifting experience.

As Dementia Action Week 2025 draws to a close, we’re already turning our thoughts to 2026, with next year’s campaign set to begin on 18th May. Until then, we remain committed every day to supporting those living with dementia, offering care that is not only professional but also filled with kindness, patience and respect.
