Each year, Nutrition and Hydration Week offers a special opportunity to shine a spotlight on the vital role that food and drink play in health and well-being – and at The Check House Care Home, it's always a highlight in our calendar. We’ve proudly taken part in this national initiative since it began in 2012, and this year was no exception. With a packed week of activities, creativity and community spirit, our residents, their loved ones and staff all came together to celebrate and learn.

Our dedicated kitchen team supports residents every day of the year with balanced, nourishing meals – always prepared with care and attention to individual needs and preferences. But Nutrition and Hydration Week gave us the perfect opportunity to showcase just how much love and thought goes into everything we do. It’s not just about what’s on the plate but how it brings people together.

Throughout the week, residents enjoyed a colourful and engaging programme of events. We kicked things off with a fun fruit and vegetable colour-matching game, which sparked conversations and a few surprises about where our favourite foods come from. Residents also had the option to get hands-on with healthy eating, creating refreshing fruit salads – which were as tasty as they were beautiful to look at.

One of the week’s highlights was our mobile smoothie bar, which brought delicious blended drinks directly to every resident at The Check House. This lovely touch made hydration easy, accessible and a bit of a treat. We also kept their minds active with food-themed quizzes and guessing games, which improved their cognitive engagement and resulted in a lot of laughter. The grand finale came in the form of a fantastic cheeseboard and some red wine, which was a brilliant way to wrap up a truly nourishing week.

Here at The Check House, we go above and beyond with our dining experience, whether it is through the delicious meals we provide or the way we seamlessly incorporate activities to ensure they can continue making the things they love whilst being supported around the clock.

We’re already looking forward to Nutrition and Hydration Week 2026 and are looking for ideas on how we can celebrate! A heartfelt thank you goes to our kitchen and activities teams, whose creativity and commitment made this week so special.
