Sunshine and a Summer Party

This year our Annual Summer Party was a hit! Our residents, friends, families and neighbours gathered in our sunny garden to catch up, share good food and simply enjoy each other's company.

Due to this year's everlasting sunshine, our team wasted no time making full use of our garden, and it set the tone for a lovely, relaxed afternoon. We were delighted to welcome so many visitors, including our friends from Silverleigh Care Home and Thornfield Care Home, who joined residents, relatives and staff for the afternoon. Our kitchen team prepared a seaside-inspired menu of fish and chips, sausage rolls, and strawberries and cream, whilst our residents enjoyed local band, Plain Sailing. It wasn't long before everyone was singing, tapping away and even some were up on their feet.

At The Check House, events like this matter far more than they might seem. Socialising is a vital part of good care, helping people to feel connected, valued and part of a community. Time spent with friends, family and neighbours can lift mood, spark memories, encourage conversation and bring real joy to the day.

At The Check House Care Home, creating meaningful activities is at the heart of what we do. We take the time to get to know each resident as an individual, including their life story, interests, hobbies and what brings them joy, and we use that knowledge to shape our activities programme. 

We listen to residents' ideas and preferences, and we offer a varied mix of things to enjoy, from music and singing to creative sessions, gentle exercise, seasonal celebrations and quiet moments over a cup of tea and a chat. We also welcome families, friends and the local community, because we believe connections beyond our doors are just as important as those within them. Whether it's a big celebration like this one or a small everyday moment, our aim is always the same: to make every day enjoyable and every resident feel valued.

Our summer party was the perfect opportunity for everyone to spend time together and enjoy a relaxed summer afternoon. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us, and to our wonderful staff team for all the hard work that went into making the party such a success. We can't wait to do it all again next year!
